Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ) - the largest enterprise in the Russian automotive industry.
The automobile plant was put into operation on 1 January 1932, and on January 29 the first truck was "lorry" GAZ-AA. Over the years "Avtozavod" employees developed more than 40 base models of trucks and cars, as well as special vehicles and buses, hundreds of modifications and experimental designs. For 85 years, the plant has produced more than 18 million cars and trucks.
GAZ now holds a special place in the automotive industry - is the only plant in Russia, which produces the widest range of commercial vehicles, special vehicles, vehicle components.
GAZ is traditional supplier of best-in-class light commercial vehicles and medium duty trucks for small and medium-size businesses, various industries, utilities, agricultural enterprises, medical and school establishments.
The plant produces light commercial vehicles "GAZelle" and "Sobol" (families Business and NEXT), medium-duty trucks' GAZon NEXT, all terrain trucks Sadko, as well as automotive components (Powertrain systems, control systems, body parts, tooling, forging parts, iron and non-ferrous castings).
GAZelle brand is recognized as one of the most powerful Russian brands on the results of a study conducted by the world's largest brand consulting agency Interbrand.
Geography of sales of enterprise - the whole of Russia, CIS and non-CIS countries. The share of GAZ in the Russian market of light commercial vehicles - about 50% in the segment of medium-duty trucks - about 70%. GAZ is also one of the leaders of the domestic auto-component market.
Sales and service network of GAZ is the largest in Russia in the commercial vehicles segment.
For three consecutive years, GAZ occupies the first place in the ranking of dealers' satisfaction, which is held by Ernst & Young. Due to the prevalence of service centers, spare parts, highly qualified professionals, in 93% of cases, the repair of GAZ vehicles is carried out in one day. Among GAZ customers in the segment of components there are more than 200 companies, not only car manufacturers and machine builders, but also transport and construction companies, the aviation industry, power industry and other.
GAZ is continuously working on the introduction of their own developments in the production. In 2013 the production of a new family NEXT began. The new range of vehicles is designed with use of the global front edge technical solutions and according to the operating characteristics in difficult weather and road conditions.
Production of the new family started in 2013 with the release of GAZelle NEXT LCV, a drop-side truck with standard and extended variant of the cargo-planform. Based on the basic model a full line of commercial vehicles GVW from 2.8 to 5 tons was established in 2016, including: cargo version with a crew cab, frame bus with 19 seats, panel vans and minibuses, as well as special-purpose vehicles based on them.

Medium-duty truck GAZon NEXT is announced the Truck of the Year "in the competition "Best commercial car of the year in Russia - 2015 ".
The basis of operation of the plant - GAZ production system, introduced in 2003 and designed on the basis of Toyota Product System. This system allows to improve the efficiency of production with maximum focus on the customer, excluding all kinds of losses and involving every employee in the organization of the improvements in the workplace. Leaders of the various branches of the Russian economy are studying the experience of the implementation of the production system at GAZ.
In recent years, the company underwent a major upgrade in preparation for the launch of new models.
Modernization has covered all the main stages of production: stamping, welding, painting and assembly lines.
Automated large parts stamping line is equipped with the latest multi-function 6-axis KUKA robots and the latest generation presses with LG die tooling specially made for the project. Creation of a new line provided high precision manufacturing of parts and high performance.
The new welding line can automatically produce different modifications of body vans. In areas equipped with modern Fanuc robots with capacity of up to 700 kg. Each robot independently changing tooling is capable of performing the transportation of parts, welding, hemming, application of adhesives and sealants.
Welding line also includes new overhead conveyors and automatic part feeding system.
Painting of NEXT family of vehicles is carried out in the newest complex, outfitted with the equipment of the German company Eisenmann. For each vehicle modification a special painting program is developed, which provides a certain trajectory of robot motion by six coordinates in all planes, which allows to uniformly paint the body and provide high corrosion protection.
In addition to development and production of its own range of vehicles, GAZ cooperates with international carmakers Volkswagen and Daimler. Since 2013, Škoda Yeti, Volkswagen Jetta, and Škoda Octavia, as well as commercial vehicles Mercedes-Benz Sprinter are produced at GAZ in contract assembly. Production of cars is organized in full cycle mode, including all major process steps: welding, painting, assembly. GAZ also has joint ventures with European companies Bosal (exhaust system) and Bulten (fasteners), GAZ makes stamped parts for Daimler and crankshaft castings for the production of in-line four-cylinder Ford engine. Industrial partnerships allow GAZ to modernize the facilities of the enterprise, create new jobs, learn the best global standards of the automotive industry and create new opportunities for localization of components.
For the implementation of modern production technologies and professional development of employees at the Gorky Automobile Plant was created corporate university. On its basis more than 400 unique training programs to improve the skills of managers and specialists, and the most popular workers professions have been developed.
